The commercial centre for the prosperous farming area of the Peel Valley, Tamworth is a progressive and growing city. There are fine restaurants, 4 licensed clubs, 2 major shopping centres and many specialty shops.


Main Attractions

Renowned as the 'Country Music Capital of Australia', Tamworth has hosted the Australasian Country Music Awards for more than 20 years. Thousands of visitors arrive in Tamworth for the 10-day festival, which is held in January. There are more than 300 shows and much of the music is provided free-of-charge. Bicentennial Park, located alongside the Peel River, is a relaxing spot and a walk following the river's edge will reveal a war memorial, a distinctive fountain and busts of country music stars.

Nundle, in the Hills of Gold, is an old gold-mining town with many original buildings to admire and craft shops to browse through. There is a re-created goldmine to inspect and many scenic outlooks in the district. Lake Keepit is located 57km west of Tamworth and is the place for powerboats, waterskiing and fishing. There are also children's facilities and a caravan park.
