DESTINATION: Bemm River
Bemm River, in Victoria's Far East Gippsland is renowned as one of Victoria's greatest fishing destinations. Development is still minimal but the town boasts a general store, bait and tackle, accommodation and a pub. The Bemm River township is established overlooking the shallow Sydenham inlet which catches the flow from the Bemm River and can remain locked off to the sea depending on the season. The Bemm River itself runs beside the town, through bushland at its upper and then through farm land below the falls as it makes its way to the sea. The landscape offers visitors and fisherman alike diversity from beach, to salt and fresh water which makes the setting beautiful with a real feeling of remoteness. Main AttractionsThe Bemm River Hotel (Pub) has been re-built and is a fine establishment and is the main meeting point for visitors and locals. Fishing is the main attraction and anglers pursue Bream and Perch in the rivers and lakes and Salmon, Tailor and Gummy Shark are the main catches from the surf. The upper reaches of the river is fished for fresh water species. |
